Walnut and Ten Grain Soup

Walnut (as with other grains, eg. flaxseeds,  linseed, soya, nuts are great other sources of Omega -3 fatty acids that can reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease and in cancer prevention.

Omega-3s acids are naturally extremely unstable and it is preferable to use whole foods as source instead of omerga-3s supplement( Drug). Therefore, it is wise to add some of these grains and nuts into our diet.

I have started adding walnut into one of our morning blends using the Cosmo SoyLove blender pot, and it has become another health drink.

Ingredients:
3 tbsp ten grain
2 tbsp barley
A handful of walnut
1300 ml of water

Add of all of the above into the filter barrel and after when it is done after 30 minutes, add sugar to taste.

Pumpkin and Ten Grain Soup

Here's yet another pumpkin soup recipe. It is an alternative to the pumpkin soup I blogged about sometime ago, if we like it as dessert instead of dinner soup. And we added ten grain soup and pumpkin seeds so that the goodness is ten-fold.

Ingredients:
500 gm of diced pumpkin
3 tbsp of ten grain
1 tbsp of pumpkin seeds
2 or 3 mint leaves (optional)

Put all of the above in the filter barrel of the Cosmo SoyLove blender pot. I tried to add some mint leaves into the blend and the taste is very nice ad refreshing. After 30 minutes and when it is done, add some sugar to taste. My husband and I prefer it without sugar, since pumpkin has some sweetness naturally.

Anti Cancer Pumpkin Soup

After using the Cosmo SoyLove blender pot, I have come across many nutritious drink/blends that has goodness you don't know you miss.

Pumpkin is said to be rich in anti-oxidant and the pumpkin seed is especially good for man to prevent prostate cancer. Recipe below is good for keeping the deadly disease at bay. But of course, we must watch our other food intakes too. It is no miracle, just by itself.

Ingredients:

Quarter of a pumpkin
1 tomato
1 carrrot
1 bombay onion
1300 ml of water

Cut all the ingredients into cube and placed it in the pot. Since there is a lot of stuffs, you do not use the filter basket. All of the ingredients can be blended well too.

After done, add some salt to taste. For cancer patients, use sea salt.

White fungus drink for lungs

I have a recipe which is good for lungs. I am trying it out for my kids who have occasional bouts of cough/ throat itchiness.

30 gm 'pao shen'
20 gm soaked white fungus (some say brownish colour is better as the white ones are bleached)
10 red dates (pitted)
a handful of 'ke chi'
1300 ml of water

Put all the items from 1. to 4. into the fllter barrel of the Cosmo Soylove. After that, add rock sugar to taste.

Happy trying! I hope this recipe can see my troubles for kids' cough out of the door, the natural way!

Bo Bo Cha Cha Dessert

A healthy variant to our traditional "bo bo cha cha" dessert (except there is no coconut milk needed!)

  1. 1 diced Sweet potato
  2. 1/3 of a yam (diced)
  3. a handful of cashew nuts
  4. 3 tbsp of ten grain
  5. 1300 ml of water
  6. Pandan leaf

Put half of item 1. and 2. into the fllter barrel of the Cosmo Soylove, and other half outside the barrel (so that we can bite). Add ten grain into the filter barrel. Pandan leaf goes outside the barrel. Press no.2.

After 30 minutes, we have a nice dessert of "bo bo cha cha"!

Mushroom Soup recipe

So, here's a healthy mushroom soup (as opposed to the ones in can, or those recipes that require to include cream)

150 gm diced chicken fillet
1 diced potato
5 mushroom (chopped in the blender)
Half a bombay onion
3 tbsp of ten grain
1300 ml of water

Put chicken, onion, potato, onion and mushroom into the filter barrel. Some potato and mushroom can be left outside the filter barrel so the kids can find it!

Use button 2. After it is done (30 minutes), pour out the soup and add salt, pepper to taste. Yummy! and very healthy. Important thing, the kids love it!

I made this last week and I am going to make it again on Wednesday. Never gonna buy those in the mushroom soup in the can anymore!

Banana Muffin

Sometimes, the kids like to "help" in the kitchen. Today’s post will be just to jot down grandma’s infamous muffin recipe so that grandma feel proud for her contribution to this blog. It is so easy to make and yummy too!

Flour 250gm
Sugar 200 gm (can be lessen, depending on preference)
Eggs 2 big ones
Sour cream/Yogurt 200 gm (I modified and used fresh milk)
Oil/ Buttter 90ml
Banana – 4 or 5 “biji” smashed
Raisins - optional

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven at 180 degrees (celcius)
2. Beat the eggs until it has plenty of bubble.(My kids go “whoa” and “can already” when it is all fluffy.)
3. Then, add the sugar, oil and milk slowly, one at a time. And continue beating the mixture until light and creamy.
4. When it is well mixed, add in the banana.
5. Lastly, fold in the flour (do not use the beater for this step).
6. Then add in the raisins.
7. Place 14 to 15 paper cups into muffin tins. Spoon batter to fill half of each case.(my daughter is good at filling up the cups. Her small hands are quite steady already)
8. Bake in oven for 40-45 mins or until golden brown.

Though Uncle Chun is far away in Kuala Lumpur. Here is your birthday muffin! Happy Birthday!
